Crime Prevention Program

The VAC provides education programs to schools, day cares, community organizations and businesses throughout the community. These programs provide children and adults with awareness and safety tips that may help to prevent them from being a crime victim.

All programs are age-appropriate and free of charge.

Programs Include:

PERSONAL SAFETY / GOOD TOUCH / BAD TOUCH

  • This program will teach children the following:
  • How to identify private parts on their bodies
  • To tell someone they do not want to be touched
  • To list adults in their life that they trust and be able to disclose to if needed
  • To have a safety plan to follow

DATE RAPE / AQUAINTANCE RAPE / DATE RAPE DRUGS

  • This program will teach students the following:
  • The difference between rape and date rape
  • Rape does occur between people that know each other
  • Tips to avoid being a victim of a rape
  • How to identify various date rape drugs
  • The effects of date rape drugs
  • The definition of statutory rape
  • The legal aspects of statutory rape

SEXUAL HARASSMENT / BULLYING

  • This program will teach students:
  • What is sexual harassment / bullying
  • Their legal rights
  • To know the school policty and procedures on bullying and sexual harassment
  • To be aware of the effects of bullying and sexual harassment

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

  • This program will teach students:
  • How to increase their problem solving skills
  • How to increase their self-esteem
  • To avoid body to body contact

SELF-ESTEEM

  • This program will teach students:
  • The differences between low self-esteem and high self-esteem
  • The importance of having positive self-esteem

TEAM WORK

  • This program will teach students:
  • How to work well together
  • Time management
  • Benefiting from various points of view
  • Problem solving techniques

RESPECT

  • This program will teach students:
  • To respect a person for who they are and embrace differences
  • Not to judge people by the way they walk, talk, dress, etc.

FRIENDSHIP

  • This program will teach students:
  • The value of friendship through difference scenarios
  • To develop friendships through interactive activities

ASSERTIVENESS

  • This program will teach students how to stand up for things they believe in through participatory activities.

FAMILY ISSUES

  • This program will teach students:
  • How to develop a family tree
  • How to explore each family members' life
  • How to use the family circle

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

  • This program will teach students:
  • How to evaluate their own relationships
  • To identify characteristics that make a healthy relationship

HOME SAFETY

This program will teach students what to do in case of an emergency.

The Victim Assistance Center also offers programs for businesses, human service agencies, civic organizations and other community groups.
